Meet the unforgettable pair straight from the heart of old Vienna—our delightful vintage music bottle duo by Mayr & Fessler. These carved wooden characters aren’t just decor—they’re storytellers from another time.
Crafted in Austria, likely between the 1950s–1960s, these whimsical figures once graced European homes as both conversation starters and clever liquor dispensers. The figure on the left, proudly donning a cap labeled “Vienna Porter,” is believed to represent a hotel porter or doorman, while his jovial companion on the right—dressed in a monk-like habit and apron—may be a nod to a friar or vintner, delightfully red-cheeked and ready to pour.
What makes them even more enchanting? They’re musical. These figures originally housed bottles inside and would play a tune when the head or cap was lifted. (Our pair may no longer sing, but they’ve kept their charisma beautifully intact.)
Each one is carved from wood and hand-painted with incredible detail—note the rosy cheeks, expressive eyes, and the exaggerated features so typical of Austrian folk art. Mayr & Fessler, known for their blend of craftsmanship and playfulness, made pieces that walked the line between kitsch and collectible, and they remain beloved by collectors of mid-century European novelties.
Perfect for anyone who loves Old World charm with a wink, these two bring personality and story to any bar cart, curio cabinet, or shelf that needs a little soul.
Come by Pollyanna’s Antiques in Mt. Clemens to see them in person—we think they’ll make you smile just as much as they’ve made us grin.
